To provide quality education for successful career and higher studies in Civil Engineering that emphasizes academic and technical excellence in profession and research, effective communication, team work and leadership to meet the challenges of the society.

Program Educational Objectives of the Civil Engineering Program addresses the following wide aspects of CE Students in line with the department Vision and Mission.

Program Specific Outcomes

1. Graduates will have an ability to design components of diverse civil structures like buildings, roads, bridges, hydraulic structures etc.,

2. Graduates will have an ability to understand the materials and processes involved in various domains of civil engineering.

Program Educational Objectives(UG)

PEO1:

Graduates will have fundamentals for successful profession and/or for higher education in civil engineering based on mathematical, scientific and engineering principles.

PEO2:

Graduates will adapt to the modern engineering tools for planning, design, execution and maintenance of works with sustainable development in their profession.

PEO3:

Graduates will exhibit professionalism, ethical attitude, communication and managerial skills, team work and social responsibility in their profession and adapt to current trends by engaging in lifelong learning.

List of Program Outcomes for Civil Engineering

PO1.Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

PO2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.

PO3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

PO4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.

PO5. Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

PO6. The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

PO7. Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.

PO8. Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.

PO9. Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.

PO10. Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.

PO11. Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.

PO12. Life-long learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.

POST GRADUATE PROGRAM IN STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING

Program Educational Objectives(PG)

PEO1:

Graduates will have high level of technical knowledge combined with research and problem solving skills to generate innovative solutions in structural engineering or related areas.

PEO2:

Graduates will continuously update themselves in current trends and modern technologies that are relevant to their profession through life-long learning.

PEO3:

Graduates will communicate effectively in their teams, manage projects efficiently and practice their profession with high regard to societal needs, sustainable development and ethical responsibilities.

List of Program Outcomes for Structural Engineering

PO1: The graduate has an ability to apply higher order thinking  for enhancement of knowledge by acquiring in-depth knowledge of specialization.

PO2: Ability to synthesize the information from critical analysis of complex engineering problems independetly to make intellectual advances.

PO3: Able to solve engineering problems by using potential feasible solutions and evaluate them to arrive at the optimal solution by considering societal and environmental factors/issues

PO4: Able to solve unfamilier problems through literature survey, apply appropriate research methodologies, conduct experiments, analyse and interpret data by working individually or in groups to create and develop and projecting the results.

PO5: Able to devise and apply appropriate techniques and modern engineering tools to complex engineering activities by understanding the limitations. An ability to apply modern tools of engineering to complex engineering activities.

PO6: An ability to contribute effectively either individually or in group on collaborative and multidisciplinary tasks to achieve common goals.

PO7: An understanding of engineering and management principles and apply the same to one's own work as a member and leader in a team and manage projects efficiently.

PO8: An ability to communicate with engineering community regarding complex engineering activities by effective reports and design doccumentation.

PO9: Recognize the need for and ability to engage in life-long learning independently with competence and commitment.

PO10: Acquire integrity, code of conduct, ethics of research and scholarshop and consideration of impact of research outcomes on professional activities.

PO11: An ability to make corrective measures and learn from mistakes from outcomes of one's actions.

Best Department in the state with advanced equipment and supporting experienced faculty. The labs of the Department are timely revived to cope up with the specifications of Consultancy Projects, which yet is another major strength of the Department. The Department of Civil Engineering is one of the departments available from the inception of the College in 1977. Postgraduate course in structural Engineering was started in year 1999.

Seven of the faculty posses PhD degrees from reputed universities, of them four have acquired their PhD while working in the college. Of the remaining, six are doing PhDs on part time basis at different universities. The Department is very active in academic, research and consultancy Programmes. It received grant for TAPTEC Project. The Department has very sophisticated test facilities such as Non Destructive testing of concrete, Shake table, Loading frame, Bump Integrator, Auto Compacter, Stack sampler, Wind tunnel ,Total Station, etc. To meet the requirements of the industry the students were trained in the usage of total station (survey equipment), and latest software in structural design, AutoCAD etc. The Department has its own computer laboratory to meet the requirements of undergraduate, post graduate and research students.The Alumni of the Department have held respectable positions in varied fields.

We believe the process of education is complete only when it is viable for application hence we promote the students in taking part of various consultancy projects.
